Tibiti is the brasserie/café located at the Best Western Elegance Hotel. My friends and I decided to go there last weekend to dine and catch up on things. As we were seated by the waitress, we were given brochures, and to our surprise, these brochures were our menus. Another surprise was that the brasserie had a number of Suriname dishes on the menu such as Bruine bonen, Bamie Kip etc…They even had pinda soep (FYI the pinda soep is made with whippy peanut butter -- just a note for whippy lovers out there :)). If Surinamese food isn’t what you are craving for, Tibiti also has fried fish, chicken schnitzel, ossehaas etc…which can be served with your choice of side order such as for instance french fries or rice.

Our food was served in very large plates. At first it seemed impressive, but give it a second look then you’ll realize that the large plates made the portions look smaller than they are. The food itself tasted okay.  Many of us expected more choices on the menu, but from the looks of it, it seems that Tibiti was trying to cater their guests with primarily local Surinamese food.

Something I can’t forget to mention was their choice of songs that night. Slow songs from the late 60’s and 70’s were played throughout the night. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of oldies, but for such a brasserie, it might be more fitting to put a jazz tune or little upbeat types of songs, considering the brasserie had a very modern feeling inside (interior design). Even better, why not put suripop songs since there was so much Surinamese food on the menu…

For its overall rating, I’d have to give Tibiti 2 smileys. We had a good time there, the location was nice, the setting as well, but we may have to think twice about eating there due to the lack of choices. On the bright side, however; Tibiti would definitely be the spot to catch up and have a drink. It’s not too crowded so you can easily have your conversations there.
